FUNCTIONALITY OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
@Acts 1:8 Romans 8:26
- But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.
- In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the spirit Himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.
Many young believers fail to understand the function of the Holy Spirit, many abuse it and they are in total confusion while other misused it hence taking their salvation for granted but we shall discus vividly from the Holy Bible the function of the Holy Spirit in this article. We are going to analyzed two verses in the Bible that talks about the main functions of the Holy Spirit.
Acts 1:8
In Acts of apostle chapter 1 verse 8, the function of the Holy Spirit is receiving power, in this case, we shall discus the scenario behind the receiving power.To receive differ from to be given power.
1. What kind of power ?
There are several kinds of power such as political, social, physical, spiritual power and e t c.
The power received as the result of the coming of the Holy Spirit is a spiritual power not a physical nor social power or any other power.
2. Why do we need power ?
There is a need for spiritual power in order to be a true witness of Christ Jesus. The reason behind this is very concise, we were born naturally into sin, we were condemned because of the existence of sin, we inherit a satanic nature of disobedient and this bring the existence of fear into human race.
In order to overcome the challenging fear, a spiritual power is needed. “when there is power, there will be confidence and confidence avails hope.“
3 How can we receive the power ?
Receiving of the Holy spirit is not on the basis of laying of hand on any believers at this present church age, no any Pastor, Elder, Deacon, Rv Father or any other man of God can give you the Holy spirit but you shall receive Him when you genuinely gave your life to Christ Jesus. You shall receive the spiritual power on the arrival of the Holy spirit into your life
What is the purpose of the power?
The main purpose of this power is not for healing and deliverance as many men of God claim, many think the power given to them is to fight against the kingdom of darkness. But this is not certainly true because we were given authority as sons of God, meaning fighting against the kingdom of Satan, healing, and deliverances are based on our authority but not on power because we have no power on our own. Note the meaning of “giving “ and “receiving “ . The holy Bible do not say that we were given power but we received power as the result of the arrival of the Holy Spirit while we were given authority as sons of God. Hence healing and other spiritual acts (miracles) performed by any believer is on the basis of his/her authoritative possession.
The main purpose of this power is to make us the true witness of Christ Jesus, to put off our sins, strengthen our weakness and inculcate in us the sense of confidence.
What is the sign of the power ?
Many believers nowadays claim that the sign of the Holy Spirit is by speaking in tongue. This is one of the greatest lies in the Church of Christ Jesus today because many believer has turned prayer meeting (a quiet place) into a noisy atmosphere all in the name of speaking in tongue. They all claim that speaking in tongue originated from the Pentecostal day event in Act of apostle chapter 2, but a vivid study from the Holy Bible (Acts:2) clarified that the tongue spoken by the apostle on the arrival of the Holy spirit was not a spiritual language but a native language of different countries (Acts 2:6-11). In addition, the apostle were not praying but were preaching the good news of salvation to the crowd in their native languages.
The sign of the power received through Holy Sprit is “obedient “ and “confidence “. Obedient to the living words of God, Obedient to the rules and commands of God and confidence to serve God as only and one master, Confidence to interact lovely with God.
>Receiving the Holy Spirit is a mark that you are a true and a never lost son of God, to receive the Spirit of God you must be born again, you must first of all accept Jesus Christ into your life
Examine yourself today.. the Spirit of God is your identity as a member of God family, You can only know God if and only if His spirit dwells in you.
